FUN MATHS

MATHS = FUN

This month's fun website/videos:

HOLIDAY TIME
More optical illusions and shapes from lines for those rainy Summer days.

June 2018
Exam month. Let's have a rest from the heavy stuff.
How can you make a circle out of lines? Lines and
circles - an artistic side to mathematical shapes.

Oh? Those exams?
TIPS:
Show some working for every question. You are awarded most marks working.
Read your exam questions carefully; here's a test to see how observant you are. How many animals can you spot HERE?

May 2018

NOW here's a really annoying set of Maths problems.

April 2018
Does Maths have you going round in circles? That's good, because many Maths questions have no one single answer. They are just good to discuss. But here's ONE that does - should you buy one 18in pizza or two 12in pizzas? The answer is HERE.

But working all this out in the pizza shop with no calculator might be a bit messy (like most pizzas). Do you need to work out the answer in full to compare the two pizzas?

(Of course you might get different toppings with the two 12in pizzas.)

March 2018
Bit of fun. What can you see? Try THESE puzzles.

February 2018
There are lots of Maths tricks to help you to guess a person's age, name etc.
Here's an interesting video

January 2018

Try this New Year Challenge.

The website here says 9, current teaching in UK says 1.

December 2017

A  fun cartoon for Christmas.
And for younger pupils, if you've ever struggled with your Seven Times Tables then Adele might help here

November 2017

It's not uncommon to arrive at an answer that is 10 times as big as it should be. This can happen at all levels; in fact the higher you rise in mathematics the more likely you are to encounter problems with lots of decimals, standard form and the like.  When attempting a problem it's good to estimate to make sure you are in the right ballpark close to the correct answer. Here is a short video on estimation

And HERE is a great trick to show your friends how to estimate square roots to one decimal place.

October 2017

HERE you will find TRICKS with numbers to amaze your friends
Then TEST your powers of deduction HERE.
