SHOULD YOU HELP AT HOME?
Yes. Particularly if you are comfortable with the subject. Encourage by all means. But take care. Recent research outlined HERE shows that parents who are themselves less confident in maths may hinder rather than help, as any maths anxiety may be passed on.
BUT...
There is an interesting way you can develop together - parent and pupil - something called NUMBER SENSE ...
And HERE is a way to practice Number Sense together.
HELP AT SCHOOL
If you feel that your child needs more help at school, then this article from The Times Ed will help with things to consider HERE.
EXAM NERVES
Some excellent advice on overcoming exam stress has been compiled by Nicola Morgan, in her BOOKS and on her WEBSITE .
CONFIDENCE
If your child is lacking confidence in Maths, yet enjoys other subjects,
then we recommend the following VIDEO of
a lecture by Jo Boaler. She refers to
scientific research which shows that believing that you can achieve something can help you to
improve.
Where necessary, our lessons include time with pupils to show them what they CAN DO in Maths and how to improve their
speed and accuracy before attempting any harder topics.
We have no direct connection/influence or financial involvement with any of the books/websites that we recommend.
